F.A.Q.

Are you an art therapist?

I am not an art therapist but am driven by the evidence that the arts have a therapeutic effect on people. Art Therapy is part of a prescribed treatment that has specific therapeutic outcomes and goals in mind for the patient. I design programmes that have a therapeutic effect on the patients, staff and visitors to hospitals. As both artists and therapists are specialists in very different fields, a collaborative approach to designed the programmes is most beneficial to the patient.

What benefits can artworks bring to healthcare environments?

Artworks and site-specific art can brighten hospital spaces, provide distraction for patients and visitors, assist in personalising a Unit or Ward. In addition the presence of art communicates to the patient and the visitor that the staff are committed to enhancing their stay by transforming an austere clinic environment into one that is humane and encourages well-being. It can also bring a sense of community if patients and staff are engaged in the selection process and it provides a focus for conversation or contemplation.

What do you mean by environment?

Environment is both the physical space and the impact that engaging in arts activities can have on the atmosphere of a place.

Who can use your service?

Any healthcare organisation, including hospitals and clinics, long-term care homes, doctors' offices,  support groups for the career and patient.
